What is Psoriasis?
Psoriasis is a chronic disease that speeds up a group of cell’s life cycles. This causes them to build up rapidly into scaly red patches on the surface of the skin that are itchy and can be painful at times. It is a common condition whose symptoms and signs come and go. Psoriasis is a unique disease that doesn’t affect everyone in the same way or to the same magnitude, patients can go from mild to almost totally disabling in their day-to-day life. Common skin areas that are affected are knees, elbows, torso, palms, and soles of the feet.
Who Gets It?
The National Institutes of Health estimate that about 2% of Americans of the United States are affected by this disease. Psoriasis generally onsets around the age of 28, but it can appear at any age. Women are more likely to be affected by this disease, but men can suffer more complications that affect the eyes do to it. As well, people in the tropics or that have dark skin are not affected in the same numbers as those without.

What Are Symptoms of Psoriasis?
